      Hi Everyone,

I am in the information gathering stage and would be grateful for your help. I teach in a mid-size MFA-BFA-BA theatre program where I am the faculty scenic designer who is responsible for supervising the paint and props shop. From the standpoint of safety, mentoring creative problem-solving, and keeping the productions on track with inexperienced students in leadership positions, having a full-time, or at the very least, a part-time paint shop supervisor/staff charge artist with a counterpart position in props is my dream.

What I need from you is:

–are any of you in that type of position or did you attend a school with that type of position? If so, where?

–Would any of you be interested in such a position? If so, what would be the salary range you would desire?

      Thank you!

      Tammy

        Hey Tammy,

When I was at DePaul University in Chicago there was a Charge Artist position, exactly like you’re describing. Her name is Jo White and she’s still there to my knowledge. She’s been in the position since 2007 (I think) and would be a great resource for you if you’re looking to talk to someone!
