Has anyone ever actually worked with Mica Powders to enhance a sets ability to make digital projections prettier?
Apparently- you mix it into your final coat of clear sealer and it adds a layer of subtle shimmer that helps bounce back the light of the projections so they are prettier.
Its been a rumor for a while, and my PD is asking us to do some samples but I’ve only ever heard mixed reviews about it actually ‘doing’ anything that was worth the extra labor and material cost.
Related to a health exposure from the use of powered mica, as you do for any product, be sure to check the SDS, and take the required precautions to limit exposure. Due to the presence of silica as an impurity, the product has the following hazard statement: ‘may cause cancer’. USG has an SDS posted at: http://www.usg.com/content/dam/USG_Marketing_Communications/united_states/sds/usg-dry-fine-ground-mica-p-80f-sds-en-52000000051.pdf?region=united_states&lang=english&cat=docspecs.
Take care, Bill
