I have a question for my west coast painters. East coast painters further south chime in too. I am based in Philadelphia but i am considering a move west in the next few years. I’m wondering what the job market is like out there? What type of work is there? I assume it is mostly or all union? What I should be doing here now to help transition?
I have lived around Philly my whole life but i feel a little like I am outgrowing it here. I love being a scenic/scene charge but im being paid a pittance to do it with no real promise of being any better off next year and am having very little progress trying to pick up design work. Im going to need a change.
Any advice would be wonderful.

No input on west coast jobs. Only thing that immediately comes to mind would be a higher cost of living.
I am a scenic artist working for ATOMIC Design out of Lititz PA. Think Lancaster county. Not far from Philly. We have some openings that you might be interested in. Check it out. Scroll down and it lists the current openings.
